Obituary for Kay Burkart (Rogers)

Brevard - Kay Burkart passed away in the twilight hours of Saturday, April 9, 2022 from her ongoing battle with cancer. She always maintained a positive disposition along with a loving heart.
was born to Joseph and Julia Rogers in Englewood, NJ, April 4, 1939. She attended college in NY’s Finger Lakes at Keuka and Cazenovia Colleges and Columbia University. Following college she worked in Manhattan for Encyclopedia Britannica and then on Fifth Avenue at the French Perfume Company, Jean D’Albret where she met her future husband, Russell Burkart. During their marriage, they held residences in Parsippany and Andover/Forest Lakes, NJ, Conestoga and Wellsboro, PA, and then finally settling in Brevard, NC in 1991. Locally, she was a successful Realtor for over 20 years. She was devout Catholic and parishioner of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Brevard.
Kay is survived by Julia, her eldest daughter and primary caregiver at home in Connestee Falls, her son, Christopher, wife Dana, and grandchild, Isabel Burkart of Mt. Pleasant, SC., her grandson, Billy Osteen of Pisgah Forest, NC. She is preceded in death by her husband, Russell Valentine Burkart and daughter, Amanda Vanessa Burkart-Osteen.
Kay’s passions included cooking (French), travel, bocce, attending concerts and theatre, camping with family, while spending 34 active and devoted years with the love of her life, Russell. Mom and Dad embodied true romance and affection all their years together.
We will miss her zest for life, easy-going demeanor, her cheeky sense of humor and taste for the occasional Bourbon.
Sincere thanks to all who cared for mom in her final months.
The family intends to gather for a Celebration of Life to be announced at a later date.
