Obituary for Kenneth McArthur Queen

Hendersonville - Kenneth McArthur Queen, age 76, went to be with the Lord on January 20, 2021.

Kenneth was a native of Transylvania County. He is predeceased by his daughter, Michele Lynn Queen; his parents, Farrell Horrace Queen and Dovie Patterson Queen; and his brothers, J.B. Queen, Gerald Farrell Queen, and Roger Lee Queen.

Kenneth is survived by his son, Jeffrey Donald Queen (and daughter-in-law, Beth); his daughter, Donna Queen McAlister (and son-in-law, Kevin); and his grandchildren, Alysha Michele McAlister, Aaron Kevin McAlister, Zachary John Queen, Amelia Grace Queen, and Samuel Jacob Queen; and his sisters, Maxine Queen Lance, Edith Allene Queen, and Kathleen Queen Aiken.

A graduate of Rosman High School, Kenneth worked at the Ecusta Paper Mill straight out of high school until the closing of the mill in 2002. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Brevard.

Kenneth loved the Lord and loved his children, grandchildren, sisters, family, and friends. He enjoyed playing golf and loved watching the Andy Griffith Show. The most important values that he demonstrated in the way he lived his life and that he passed on to his children and grandchildren were compassion for those less fortunate, generosity, and a good work ethic. He was quick to give to others in need and never sought recognition for it. His philosophy on work was to give one hundred percent to the job whether you like it or not, because it is just the right thing to do. He was a man of few words, but his actions spoke volumes. His favorite verse was 2 Timothy 2:15 “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.”

Because of the loss of his daughter Michele to cancer at a young age and because of his heart for children in need, instead of flowers he would best be honored with a donation to St. Jude’s Hospital.

Receiving of friends will be held at First Baptist Church of Brevard 10:00-11:00am on Saturday, January 30, 2021 followed by the funeral service at 11:00am. For everyone’s maximum safety, we ask that all attendees follow the church’s protocol for covid safety and wear a mask and maintain social distancing. After the funeral service at the church, members of Kenneth’s family will meet at the Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory in Pisgah Forest for graveside words and prayer.
