Obituary for Luther Spurgeon Harris
Luther Spurgeon Harris, age 84, of Neddy Mountain Community in Tuckasegee NC, passed away on Friday, February 3, 2023, at Skyland Terrace and Rehabilitation in Waynesville, NC.
Luther was born July 7, 1938, in Little Canada township of Jackson Co, NC to the late John Henry Harris and Nora Lee Owen Harris. He was also preceded in death by his loving and faithful wife of 41 years, Edith Inez Farmer Harris, and his siblings, Lon, Celia, Elsie, Charlie, Pearl, Jessie, Lorene, and Florence.
He is survived by his devoted and dedicated friend of 15 years Helen Brown of CA, his brother Grady (Ann) Harris and sister Millie Dowell, both of WA, his children Barbara Harris of NY, Helen (Marvin) Hunt of NC, Larry (Sandy) of VA, Beverly (Lynn) of NC, Homer (Jeannie) of GA and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Luther was well known in his community for logging and farming. He was also an ordained minister and loved spreading the word of God and picking his guitar. While working in the timber business and residing in the state of WA, he joined Twin Falls Masonic Lodge #180 in Yacolt WA in 1966 and upon returning to NC to reside, he joined the East LaPorte Masonic Lodge #358 in 1971. Luther was a well-loved and loyal Master Mason for in excess of 53 years.
Viewing and family visitation will be held Tuesday, February 7th from 11:30 am to 1 pm, at Moody-Connolly Funeral Home, 181 S. Caldwell St, Brevard NC 28712, followed by graveside services at 2:00 pm at Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery, 172 Kitchen Loop Rd, Silverstein Community Lake Toxaway NC 28747 with Rev Marty Reid officiating.
