Obituary for Margaret Jean Kilstrom (George)
Margaret (George) Kilstrom, age 89, passed on to her heavenly reward November 13, 2020 after a brief illness.
A lifelong resident of Transylvania County and her beloved community of Little River, she graduated from Brevard High School and Brevard College and then went on to receive her B.A. in Education from Western Carolina University. She began her teaching career at Little River and Etowah, then went on to teach various elementary grades at Brevard and Penrose, retiring with more than 30 years of service.
She was active in Delta Kappa Gamma teachers’ sorority for many years. Her heart was knit to her church family at Little River Baptist Church serving as a Sunday school teacher, as well as in G.A’s, VBS, pastoral search committees and in many other capacities. She also volunteered at Transylvania Hospital with her late husband Fred for over twenty years. They both were also very active in Little River Community Club for many years. She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her sister Betty McCrary and niece Phyllis Cooper. Betty's two daughters Kim McCrary of Wilmington and Judy Culpepper of Woodstock, GA were also very close to her.
She was married to Fred Kilstrom for 63 years who preceded her in death in 2017. She is survived by sons: Tim (wife Vicki) Kilstrom of Grand Island, NE, and Eric (wife Susan) Kilstrom of Little River; five grandchildren: Mica Olinghouse, Ryann Kneeshaw, Ashley Kilstrom, Larson Kilstrom and Tori Garcia; and eight great-grandchildren.
A private family graveside service will be held at Little River Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-3 PM Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at Little River Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Little River Baptist Church or Little River community Club.
