Marie Bowker passed, surrounded by her family, on November 5th, 2022, at the age of 98. Born in Philadelphia in 1924, she spent her childhood walking through the city neighborhoods and exploring the world around her. She moved to Transylvania County with her husband, Edwin Bowker, from Florida in 1984 where she remained until her final days. Her grandsons and great grandchildren grew up on her farm, rolling down the big hill, and sitting under the maple tree.

Marie was an active member of the Quebec community; she shared her love for the piano by offering lessons to adults and children alike. Her skills as a pianist were appreciated during the Sunday morning services at her church. She also provided educational programs to her church that explored butterflies and birds (her favorite being the ruby-throated hummingbird), and she spent countless hours working on her property growing wildflowers, trimming trees, and walking through the woods.

Marie is survived by her daughter, Karen, her two grandsons, Edwin and Paul, her three great granddaughters, Kirin, Isaiah, and Paulina, and her two great-great grandchildren, Adilee, and Finn. She will be laid to rest at 2pm on Friday, November 11, 2022, at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Lake Toxaway, NC. A celebration of her life for family and friends will be held at the Quebec Community Center on Sunday, November 13, 2022, from 2PM-4PM.
