Obituary for Marilyn Ann Macconnie (Hogan)

Marilyn MacConnie, 87, residing at The Oaks in Brevard, NC, recently of Cape Coral, FL, and formerly of Holtsville, NY, and Holbrook, NY, passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 18, 2023.

Born in Brooklyn, NY on December 3rd, 1935, to her parents, William Hogan and Hilda Hogan (Scheuerman).

After marrying in May of 1957, she lived and traveled the world including Iran, France, Canada, Ireland, South Africa, Finland, England, and more. She always regaled of her trips abroad.

Marilyn was a mother of four and a dedicated homemaker and then teacher’s aide at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Holbrook, NY. In her retirement she was active on Long Island with the Church of the Good Shepard Social Ministries - Outreach program and St. John’s Lutheran Church Ladies Aide Society. The activities she did with those groups meant so much to her and their members are cherished friends.

Preceding her in death, her grandparents Patrick Hogan, Mary Hogan (McCleary), Fred Scheuerman and Anna Scheuerman (Low).

Parents, William Hogan and Hilda Hogan (Scheuerman), and beloved sister, Margaret Kletecka (Hogan).

She is survived by her oldest sister Esther Laube (Hogan) of Connecticut.

Children, Jean Marie Van Dyke (husband, John) of Franklin, AR; Michael William MacConnie (wife, Cindy) of Pisgah Forest, NC; Nancy Lynn Pierce (husband, Doug) of Durham, NC; and Debra Joan Lurie (husband, Steven) of Tampa, FL.

Her Grandchildren and the lights of her life, Lindsey, Brittany, Jessica, Ciara, Joshua and Jacob.

A Catholic service will be held at the Church of the Good Shepard in Holbrook, NY on May 27, 2023 @ 11am (1370 Grundy Avenue, Holbrook, NY 11741). Followed by a celebration of life hosted by her children – location to be announced.
