Obituary for Martha Faye Whitmire (Owen)
Pisgah Forest - Martha Faye Owen Whitmire, 80, was promoted to heaven on Saturday, February 29, 2020.
She was born July 6, 1939, in Transylvania County, one of five children in the family of Homer and Edna Owen of Silversteen community. She was preceded in death by her husband Russell Whitmire, two children, Terri Cagle and Todd Whitmire and two brothers, Braxton and Jack Owen.
She was a 1957 graduate of Rosman High School. She worked as librarian and bus driver for Transylvania County Schools and as secretary for Faith Christian School in Hendersonville, NC. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Asheville, which she loved and attended regularly. Widowed since 2009, she spent her last years caring and loving on her family and making friends at the Silvermont Lunch Plus Program. She welcomed everyone to call her “Grandmama” and shared her home and heart to anyone who needed a friend. She will be greatly missed.
Survivors include three children, Janet Galloway and husband Jeff, Gina Bushaw and husband Austin and Heather Jordan and husband Chad, 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor may be made to Trinity Baptist Church, 216 Shelburn Road, Asheville, NC 28806 or Broyhill Children’s Home, 111 Sneed Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
Funeral services will be held 1pm, Friday, March 6, 2020 at Moody-Connolly Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory.
