Brevard - Mary Bracken Blackwell Bryson, 92, peacefully went to be with her heavenly Father on Tuesday, March 16, 2021. A native of Brevard, she was the daughter of the late Ralph Odell Bracken and Elizabeth Hamlin Bracken. She was born February 28, 1929.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother James “Jimmy” O. Bracken, her first Husband David M. Blackwell, her second husband Fred C. Bryson and her son, Robert “Bob” D. Blackwell.

Mary attended Furman University to train as a nurse but never worked in the medical field. She worked as a weaver in Endless Belt at Olin/Ecusta for over 40 years until she retired in 1991 at the age of 62.

Mary was referred to as Mamaw by her grandchildren who found peace in her presence and comfort in her arms. She found joy in giving to others and always placed everyone’s needs as a priority. She lived through the Great Depression and was an avid bargain shopper and enjoyed searching for her next treasure at thrift stores and yard sales. She had the most generous spirit that a person could have and loved sharing her special finds with everyone. Mary enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and shared the fruits of her labor with everyone that visited her home. One of her true talents was painting. She was a very gifted artist and created many beautiful canvas paintings. Those creations will be cherished by her family for years to come.

Mary was a life long member at Glady Branch Baptist Church and involved in many church activities. She faithfully attended every Sunday sermon and Sunday school for as long as her health allowed. She loved the Lord and lived her life as a faithful role model. Her impact on the lives of all those around her cannot be overstated. She spent a lifetime preparing for her journey to heaven. All that knew her knew that her joy truly came from her precious grandchildren and her Lord and Savior.

Survivors include her daughter Barbara F. Raines and husband Pete, son Henry “Hank” O. Blackwell and wife Debra, grandchildren, April M. Witzel, Matthew D. McCall and wife Jennifer, David T.
