Brevard, NC – Mrs. Mary Jo Fayssoux Garner of Connestee Falls/Brevard, NC passed away peacefully on 1/8/2023. She was born on November 29, 1938.
A resident of Brevard, NC for the last 30 years, she grew up in Greenville, SC where she graduated from Greenville High School and Furman University. She was married for over 60 years to Carlos Payton Garner, also of Greenville, SC, and they raised 3 sons.
Mary Jo is preceded in death by her father Scott Fayssoux, her mother Verda Fayssoux, her sister Lila Moseley and her husband Moe Moseley, her brother Dr. Richard Fayssoux, her sister-in-laws Cathey Fayssoux and Laura Fayssoux, and her precious son, Gregory Fayssoux Garner.
She leaves behind her dear husband Carlos, 2 children, Joseph Garner and wife Amy, David Garner and wife Jane, and 3 grandchildren, Brick, Payton, and Evan. She also leaves behind her two brothers, Morgan Fayssoux and his family, and James Fayssoux and his family, and his wife Emily.
Mary Jo taught school in Greenville County for 30 years while raising a family and making lifelong friendships. She loved being outside and participating in sports. She was an avid tennis player winning recreational leagues in Greenville. She probably took her greatest joy loading up the car with her friend Frankie Clement and carrying her sons to various tennis tournaments and other sporting events.
In her later years, she took even greater joy in being around her grandchildren and teaching them how to swim at Hilton Head, how to ride bikes, and any other activity that she could dream up where they could all participate.
Her last 7 years were spent fighting Alzheimer’s and its dreaded effects. The family would ask that any Memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in its fight to eradicate this horrible disease.
Services will be private.
