Mary Opal Matheson went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 2nd, 2021 at the age of 56, with many loved ones around her.
She was born to Opal and T.R. Chastain Jr. on October 14th, 1964. She was the youngest of five siblings, Jane, Tony, Trish, and Lane, and proved to be the best little sister anyone could have, even though she was the most spoiled…and she knew it. After graduating high school, she went on to pursue a career in cosmetology. It wasn’t long before she found her true calling of being a mother. Mary’s daughter, Cristina, was born in 1988 and Mary devoted her life to being a boundless presence that shaped her daughter’s life in a monumental way. She was her confidant, defender, inspiration, mentor, and lifelong best friend.
Mary’s call to motherhood extended to everyone around her. Her compassionate nature was as welcoming as her smile was contagious. She loved Jesus and truly exhibited the character of living a life of loving others, as Jesus commanded.
In 2006, Mary met the love of her life at Flick Video. James knew Mary was the one the first time they spoke. After several attempts, Mary finally said yes to a first date and the rest is history. They were married on July 29th, 2006. Tracy made the best wedding cake ever.
Mary’s most recent years have seen even greater joy as she loved every minute of being a grandmother to Luke and Loralye and making memories with family and friends, especially when it involved an ocean view.
John 14:1-3 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.”
We would be honored for you to join us in the celebration of Mary's Life and the peace of knowing she is with her Heavenly Father.
