Obituary

Duncan Carmichael Hunter, Jr. (Mike), 74, passed away Saturday, April 20th, 2019 at his home in Brevard, NC.

Born in Lenoir, NC on March 31, 1945, he moved with his family to Brevard, NC at an early age and lived in western North Carolina for most of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Duncan and Ruth Hunter.

Mike graduated valedictorian from Brevard High School in 1963. He then pursued a 3-2 college program: receiving a degree in Physics from Davidson College (1963-1967) and a degree in Industrial Engineering from Georgia Tech (1966-1968)

He worked as an industrial engineer for Kingsbury Homes and Steelecase before starting his own company, Hunter Consultants, Inc., that focused on Just-in-Time planning, resource scheduling, and master planning. He worked with companies throughout North Carolina as well as in Pennsylvania, Chicago, St. Louis, Baltimore and Richmond. He was an active member of APICS.

Mike loved hiking, the outdoors, a good stout beer, and classic rock. After his mother’s passing, he moved into his childhood home in Brevard. He loved living close to so many good hiking trails and breweries. He played trumpet in the high school band all four years. He also loved college sports, following Davidson and Georgia Tech basketball and football.

He is survived by his wife Yane Hunter of Brevard, NC, daughter, Angie Skurnick and husband Shaw of Burke, VA, daughter, Elizabeth Hunter of Charlotte, NC, stepson, Robert Rosenberg and wife Cindy of San Diego, CA, grandchildren, Zachary Skurnick, Hannah Skurnick, and Ruie Rosenberg, sister, Ruth Ellen Keally and husband Jim of Watkinsville, GA and brother, Steve Hunter and wife Tanya of Marion, NC.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brevard Music Center.

Funeral services will be held 2pm, Thursday, April 25, 2019 at Moody-Connolly Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service in Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory.
