Obituary for Ollie Mae Reese (Burrell)
Brevard - Ollie Mae Reese (Burrell), age 98, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 20, 2022.
She was born on October 10, 1923, in Walhalla, SC and resided in Lake Toxaway, NC. She was the eldest of the late Jim and Roxy Burrell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Leslie Reese, her son Sammy Reese, sisters Mary Mendlowitz and Nina Smith and brothers, Columbus and Bud Burrell.
Ollie graduated from Anderson College and became a schoolteacher in Highlands North Carolina where she met the love of her life Leslie Reese. After the war, Leslie and Ollie Mae married and began their life in Beaumont, Texas. They moved to Fairfax, Virginia where she was a schoolteacher and cashier at Grand Union. When they retired Leslie and Ollie owned and ran Mt. Toxaway Motel in Sapphire North Carolina.
Survivors include her son Stan Reese (Beth), grandchildren Bart Reese (Stacy), and Justin Reese (Caitlin), three great grandchildren, Caelyn, Tyson and Emery. In addition, she is survived by her brother Bill Burrell (Martha), Helen Brown, Gladys McCall (Eldon), Virginia Winchester (Gene), and several beloved nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held 11:30am, Saturday, May 28, 2022 at Lake Toxaway Baptist Church, 777 Toxaway Church Road, Lake Toxaway, NC 28747. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Following the service she will be laid to rest at the Highlands Memorial Cemetery, Highlands, NC.
