Patricia Kay Blaine, 79, of Pisgah Forest passed away Sunday, November 4, 2018 at home with family members in attendance.
Patricia (nee Kissling) Blaine was born in Springfield, Ohio. After being honorably discharged from the USAF in 1960, she lived in Florida and from 1992 to 2005 in Hildrizhausen, Germany before retiring to Pisgah Forest with her husband, Daniel Blaine in 2005.
In addition to being an outstanding runner and triathlete, Pat was the first American woman to bicycle into the former East Germany after the Berlin Wall came down. On September 11, 2001 Pat's flight from Germany to the USA was diverted to Gander, Newfoundland and she spent 10 days in Gambo, Newfoundland until a flight to the USA was available.
Patricia is survived by her husband Daniel, two sons, George and John and 3 siblings: Roberta Ober, James and Zane plus 4 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at her favorite campsite in the Great Smokey Mountains this spring.
Services will be private.
