Obituary for Randall Howard "Randy" Moretz Sr.
Randall “Randy” Howard Moretz, Sr., age 65 of Brevard, died unexpectedly on November 5, 2019.
Randy was born on January 16, 1954 in Boone, NC to the late Raleigh Howard Moretz and Lois Cook Moretz. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Cheryl Moretz Kitchen, and a nephew, Bronson David Shepherd.
Randy proudly served his country with honor as a Sergeant First Class in the United States Army for 14 years, serving in the 82nd Airborne division and as a Drill Sergeant. He also served over 25 years as a law enforcement officer in Henderson and Transylvania counties.
Randy was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Pisgah Forest and was also a member of the Masonic Lodge.
He was devoted to his family and loved by many. Randy enjoyed volunteering as a coach in youth sports. He was also a die-hard Clemson fan.
“We will cherish the memories we have of him and live in the certainty that he is with his Heavenly Father. We love and miss you Big Daddy!”
Survivors include three daughters, Christy Reid and husband Jamie of Alabama, Lisa Rogers and husband Jayson of Brevard, and Ashley Lavery and husband Tim of Brevard; one son, Randy Moretz and wife Shasta of Brevard; one sister, Renee Shepherd of Brevard; one brother, Brent Moretz and wife Vickie of Brevard; eleven grandchildren, Kayla Burton, Hannah Burton and husband Mike, Madison Jackson and husband Aaron, Randy Moretz III, Emma Moretz, Ava Rogers, J.T. Rogers, Jaxin Shelton, Cody Nate Shelton, Jacob and Onalee Lavery; great-granddaughter, Brynley Lavery; great-grandson, Xander Jackson; nephew, Adam Kitchen and wife Crystal.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 am Monday, November 11, 2019 at Brevard Community Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
