Obituary for Reeves J. Ricker
Reeves Ricker, age 95, went on to be one of God’s faithful servants on January 8, 2021.
He was a native of Hot Springs, NC, and then moved with his wife, the late Mary Lee Sumerel Ricker, to Brevard, NC, where they had two children, a daughter Janice, and a son Michael who passed away as a child. He lived in Brevard for over 70 years.
During his working years in Brevard, he worked with Sealtest Dairy, Ecusta and then he took an opportunity to become a co-owner of the first Lowe’s to come to Brevard located on Asheville Hwy, where Love that Yogurt complex is now located. Then, the Rickers bought and settled into their lives as owners of Brevard Hardware and Carpet on Main St, Brevard, NC. He enjoyed working and making life-long friends with the patrons.
He was a member of the Brevard Wesleyan Church, enjoyed attending church, and gave service to his church in many ways. He was a member of the Promise Keepers.
Surviving members of his immediate family are a daughter, Janice Ricker Garbade, and his son-in-law, Ed Garbade of Folly Beach, SC; two granddaughters, Chelsea Chandler of Brevard, NC and Mary Chandler Smith and her husband, Jesse Smith of Brevard, NC.
Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, the family is not planning a service at this time.
