Obituary for Richard Eli Alewine Jr.

Richard Eli Alewine, Jr. (89), formerly of Tryon, NC, went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 9th, 2022, at Carolina Reserve at Laurel Park in Hendersonville, NC.

Richard was born September 5, 1933, in Tryon, NC, the son of the late Richard Eli, Sr. and Dora R. Burrell Alewine. He spent most of his career in textiles. He enjoyed family, church, woodworking, and playing golf. Richard came to faith in Christ in his early 40’s and walked faithfully with God the rest of his life. He served as a Deacon, Superintendent, and Sunday School teacher at Lynn First Baptist in Lynn, NC. Richard was also a veteran, serving in the United States Army.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby McCurry Alewine (2003) and his sisters, Betty, Polly, Mary, and Gertrude. He is survived by three children: Scott (Cindy) Alewine of Orangeburg, SC, Kim (Pat) McCool of Columbus, NC, and Todd (Sheila) Alewine of Hendersonville, NC; and one sister, Joyce Hyder. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Lindsey (Jordan) Limerick of Raleigh, NC, Meredith (Joshua) Durham of Columbus, NC, Morgan (Austin) Hobart of Statesville, NC, Lauren (Zach) Dickson of Amsterdam, Seth (Danielle) McCool of Spruce Pine, NC, and Jessica (Austin) Mackey of Jacksonville, Florida; and ten great- grandchildren.

His Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:30pm on Saturday, September 17th, 2022, at Carolina Reserve at Laurel Park (1825 Pisgah Drive, Hendersonville, NC). There will be a burial at a later date at Polk Memorial Gardens.
Moody-Connolly Funeral Home and McFarland Funeral Chapel are assisting with the arrangements.
