Obituary for Howard Crowe

Robert “Howard” Crowe, 91, of Rosman, NC, passed away at his home on Monday, May 31, 2021. He was born on April 28, 1930, to the late Robert Loran Crow and Beulah Powell Crow. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Shelvia Jean Crow, and a brother, Joseph Elmo Crowe.
Howard was a member of Zion Baptist Church. He retired after 42 years from Ecusta Corporation. He proudly served in the U. S. Army from 1951 to 1957, during the Korean War. He held the rank of corporal. He was a founding member of the Rosman Fire Rescue, Inc. He was also a member of Rosman Rescue Squad for over 40 years until its merger with the fire department. He was a member of the NC Association of Rescue Squads and EMS and the NC State Firefighters Association. He loved giving back to his community. He was a member of the VFW and Woodmen of the World.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marian “Judy” Crowe, two sons, Robert Samuel Crowe and wife, Sandra, Terry Howard Crowe and wife, Annette. He had three granddaughters, Amber Bailey and husband, Patrick, of Penrose, NC, Terri Renee Stewart and husband, Jason, of Cheney, Washington, and Robin Dale Crowe of Rosman. He had five great grandchildren, Emma, Andrew and Madilyn Bailey and Dalton and Dillon Stewart. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were the love of his life. Also, he is survived by two brothers, Lynell Crowe and wife, Pat, and Lynn Crowe, both of Rosman, and one sister, Shirley Crowe Nicholson and husband, Claude, of Brevard, brother-in-law, David Butler and wife, Martha, of Brevard, and two sisters-in law, Arlene Gilstrap and husband, Jack, and Julia Ann McWhorter and husband, Fred, of Pickens, SC, and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held 2pm, Friday, June 4, 2021 at G. W. Whitmire Cemetery with Rev. Tommy Madden officiating. Military rights will be conducted by the Transylvania County Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be firefighters from various departments.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Whitmire Cemetery Fund for the upkeep of the cemetery, Post Office Box 514, Rosman, NC 28772.
