Obituary for Russel Edmond Dickey

Russel Edmond Dickey passed away on August 23, 2021, at the age of 89.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Claire Dickey, and loving son, Keith Dickey.
He is survived by his dear sister, Nancy Daniels, three cherished sons, Bruce, Tod, and Dale Dickey, devoted daughter-in-law, Lisa Dickey, and a set of adoring grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Michael and Ryan Dickey, Ashley Dickey, Tanya Collins, Kevin Dickey, Nathan Dickey, Remy Caban, Ember Collins, Beau Dickey, and Emma Dickey.

Born in Benton Station, Maine during the Great Depression, Russel’s life was shaped by a desire to serve and an unwavering work ethic. He joined the U.S. Army as a teenager and served as a Staff Sergeant in Germany during the Korean War. Upon his return home, he married the love of his life, Claire, and they had four sons. After a family move from New England to Florida, Russel built custom homes for customers all over the Tampa Bay area. Even amongst a generation known for their proclivity to hard work, Russel always stood out. In retirement, he never stopped working or serving others. During his later years residing in Cashiers, North Carolina, he was known as the neighborhood handyman and
could often be found up a ladder or on a roof, performing much appreciated odd jobs for his friends, family and neighbors. When years and sickness began to take their toll, Russel cared for Claire at home through her dying day. Likewise, he stayed strong and independent up to his own final moments. He was a man’s man and forever a gentleman, the last of an era. He will be fondly remembered and dearly missed.
