Obituary for Starr Lancaster Quinn

Sapphire - Starr Lancaster Quinn closed her eyes here on Earth and opened them in Heaven to the arms of her Savior. She passed peacefully in her sleep during the morning of February 3, 2024, thus concluding just over 94 years of faithful love and service to her LORD.

She was greeted in Heaven by her Husband, Milton H. Quinn. She was also preceded by her parents Burton Lee Lancaster and Edna Orr Lancaster, brothers Donald, Edward, and Johnny, a grandchild, Angela Felton, and many close friends and family.

Starr was an accomplished artist and has left her mark everywhere she went, with beautiful paintings, many of which she created for churches throughout her life. She was a lifelong student of art and taught art classes at Tabernacle Baptist School in Virginia Beach in her earlier years. She met her future husband at the age of 15, dated through the rest of school. She graduated in June and was married in August.

She was a faithful wife for 72 years before he passed away. She and her husband bought property in Sapphire because she said, “This is the most beautiful place of all my travels-nothing surpasses the 4 seasons of the mountains of NC.” She was an active member of Whitewater Baptist Church for decades and could always be heard Praising the Lord and singing for His glory and helping create the best “dinner on the grounds” around! She and her husband built and ran Starr’s Mountain Gallery for several years where she guided lost travelers to the local waterfalls, sold her art and crafts, and made it her mission to give away as many Bibles as possible.

In her last few years she moved to an assisted living facility where she enjoyed being active with her neighbors, playing (and winning!) BINGO, feeding the chickens and playing with the birds, guinea pigs, turtles and all the pets they brought to visit. She continued to created art pieces and gave them away to visitors and staff alike admonishing them to “keep praising the Lord! Yes, yes, yes!” She was adored by all who met her and helped care for her and was always a ray of sunshine. She was visited often by friends and family from near and far and enjoyed FaceTiming on her Grandpad daily with family too far to visit.

She is survived by two older brothers, Billy Lancaster of South Carolina and Stanley Lancaster of Virginia, two younger sisters Nancy Giles of Texas, and Naida Forbes of Virginia, four children, Milton “Micky” Quinn Jr. of Virginia, Lenore McCollum of North Carolina, Christine Joyner (Ben) of South Carolina, and Yvonne Saxon (Bill) of Virginia. She also leaves behind six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 2pm, Friday, February 9, 2024 at Whitewater Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Internment will follow in Montvale Whitewater Cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Bible Team, Tabernacle Baptist Missions International in honor of her desire to send out as many Bibles as possible.
