Obituary for Steve Rice
Joe Stephen “Steve” Rice, age 65, of Brevard, NC gained his heavenly wings on Tuesday, April 26th, 2022.
Steve, a native and lifelong resident of Transylvania County, was born October 9th, 1956.
Steve spent 20+ years working at Ecusta and 15+ plus years working for Transylvania County schools. Anyone that knew Steve loved and adored him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Donna Bright Rice, his daughters Stephanie Pursley and husband Brock, Kelly Hooper and husband TJ; his brothers Mike and Clyde Jr.; nephew Brad Rice and the light of his life, his grandchildren, Brynn and Blair Pursley and Braulin and Kaelyn Hooper.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Carrie Jo Duckworth and husband Sidney; his father, Clyde Rice Sr., his maternal grandparents Rad and Rosa Bryson and his paternal grandparents Walter and Ida Rice.
He dedicated his life to his family and faith, but most of all his grandchildren. He was a lover of all sports, but mostly Carolina Basketball. He was very active and enjoyed playing in a local Senior basketball league. He was also actively involved with his children’s and grandchildren’s activities including coaching for Upward Basketball.
He was a loving, generous, compassionate husband and father, and a friend to all. He had a sense of humor that would bring a smile to even a stranger’s face.
A visitation will be held Saturday April 30th, 2022 at Etowah Baptist Church from 11:30-12:30. A funeral service will immediately follow with Reverends Josh Martin and Noah Matthews officiating. A “Celebration of Life” meal will be provided after burial services for family and friends at Hawg Wild BBQ.
