Obituary for Theodora Frances Soule (Wendt)

Theodora “Teddy” Frances Soule, born January 15, 1923, passed away April 8th. She was the daughter of Theodore “Frank” and Anne Wendt of Chicago, Illinois. She grew up there and also in Mansfield, Ohio. She attended both Syracuse University and the Eastman School of Music. Married to Gardner Soule of Rochester, NY, she lived there for fifteen years. In 1962, she moved to Fort Lauderdale, FL. There she worked for Judd Realty and later at Lago Mar Hotel and Resort. She continued to pursue her passion for music in Hollywood, Florida as the soloist in the First Church of Christ Scientist and as a member in the Fort Lauderdale Symphony Chorus.

In 1991 she moved to Decatur, GA to be closer to her daughter and granddaughter. There, she enjoyed working at the DeKalb Tennis Center and was able to continue her singing career as a substitute soloist at the First Church of Christ Scientist in Decatur, Georgia.

Her most recent move, in 2011, was to Brevard, NC where her daughter and husband retired. There, she was a resident at the College Walk retirement community. Active at College Walk, she volunteered on the Welcome Committee, and in the library there. She sometimes played the piano for Vespers and special occasions, and called bingo.

A prime interest to her was her PEO organization, an educational organization that supports young women to further their education by providing loans and scholarships. Teddy was recently honored at the PEO North Carolina state convention for her long involvement and contributions of 74 years in the organization and a scholarship fund has been established in her name.

She is survived by her brother Frank Wendt of Marco Island, FL, son, Gardner Soule, Jr of Victor, NY, daughter Nancy Carroll of Brevard, NC, four grandchildren, Peter Soule of Thailand, Molly Soule Fenster of Bloomfield, NY, Heidi Soule Goveia of Malawi, Africa, and Chloe Brown-Goodman of Oakland, CA. She also has seven great-grandchildren: Eleanor and Andrew Soule, Oscar, Isaac, and Evelyn Fenster, and Sabra and Hazel Goveia.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to PEO International Foundation to the “Teddy Soule Scholarship”. Her fund will provide scholarships and loans to deserving young women in Transylvania County to further advance their education. Donations may be made online, or download a form and mail it to eh PEO Executive Offices. The website is https://donations.peointernational.org/

A Life Celebration service will be held for Teddy Soule on Thursday, April 18th in the College Walk auditorium at 2:00 PM. Friends and family are invited to honor her life followed by a brief
