Obituary for Thomas Larry "Fred" Kitchen

Thomas “Fred” Kitchen of Hendersonville, NC passed away with family at his side on December 24, 2020 after an extended illness.

Tom “Fred” was born in Brevard, NC on June 19, 1959. He grew up in Brevard and moved to Florida in the late 1990’s where he worked in Security as a K-9 officer, and later the career that he retired from. He became a Sworn Deputy with the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office where he was a Traffic Homicide Deputy until his retirement in 2010.

Tom moved back to Hendersonville with his wife and two canine companions in 2011. There, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle driving his hot rods. He enjoyed slot car racing with his Rosman League. Tom was a lifetime member of The Defenders Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club, where he enjoyed the brotherhood/sisterhood on many rides.

Tom was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, uncle, Tom Kuykendall, mother, Ruth Wilde, and step-father, Elzie Wilde.

Survivors include his wife Carole; son, Thomas Larry Kitchen III; daughter, Alice Sawyer Kitchen; father, Morris Kitchen and wife Pat; granddaughters, Karma Paige Kitchen and Carolina Rose Kitchen; grandsons, Daniel and Christopher O’Diear; aunt, Deborah Morgan; cousins, Christina Kuykendall, Jennifer Devos, Jason Galloway, and Jessie Morgan; canine companion, Ice; childhood friends and ridding buddies, Tim Baynard and Larry Keever; numerous NC and FL law enforcement brothers and sisters.

A graveside service will be held at 2 PM Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory.
