Obituary for Tolvin "Ted" Whitmire

Tolvin “Ted” Whitmire, age 82, of Little River passed away on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at his home.

A native of Transylvania County and a life long resident of Transylvania County, he was the son of the late Elbert and Ida Whitmire. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Joe Whitmire and sister, Beulah Robinson.

Ted was a member of Little River Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. He retired from Ecusta and was a proud member of the United Paper Workers Union. He loved the outdoors, especially the streams of Transylvania County where he became an avid fly fisherman. His other hobbies include woodworking and carving. He enjoyed spending time at the Cradle of Forestry showing his walking sticks, wizard faces and telling folks about the mountains he loved.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Loretta Anders Whitmire, daughter, Karen Wehrle and husband Tom, son, Rich Whitmire and wife Debra, sisters, Peggy Guilkey and Carol Merrill, step granddaughters, Hollie McDaniel and Danna Wehrle, step grandson, Justin Nance and step great grandchildren, Brooklyn, Clint, Mercy and Maggie,

The Whitmire family would like to give special thanks to the homecare givers that took such good care of Ted and were also a blessing to the family, the doctors, nurses and staff at Pardee Cancer Center who did so much to help Ted through his long battle with cancer and to the staff of Four Seasons Hospice for their caring help.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Four Seasons Hospice, 571 S. Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.

Memorial services will be held 2pm, Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Little River Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeff Maynard officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
