Obituary for Walter Joseph McLellan

Walter Joseph McLellan, age 98 of Brevard, born in Freeport, New York on July 30, 1920 to Neil and Helen (Judge) McLellan, the last surviving of his seven brothers and sisters, passed away at home and in Christ May 22, 2019.
Walter is survived by his wife of 49 years, Yvonne; son, Duncan (and his wife, Alissa); and grandchildren, Thomas and Sarah. He was preceded in death by his son, Patrick.
Walter was a Marine Corps Pilot in the Second World War, where he was stationed in the Pacific and fought in the battles of Peleliu and Guadalcanal. He received degrees from Brown (B.A.), Stanford (Doctor of Jurisprudence), and The University of Southern California (Master of Laws, Taxation). He worked in private practice (Los Angeles, CA), as Legal Counsel for Crocker Bank (San Francisco, CA; 1969-74) and Chief Counsel for the Commerce Department (Washington, DC; 1975-2002) where he worked until he was 81 years old.
Walter and Yvonne retired to Brevard in 2002, where they enjoyed 17 years of God’s beautiful creation. It was during these later years that Walter came to know Jesus as his Savior. Walter leaves a legacy of love, commitment, honesty and sacrifice to his family and friends.
The funeral service will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Mt. Pisgah Lutheran Church, 2606 Chimney Rock Rd., Hendersonville, NC. Interment with military rites will be at 12 Noon Monday, May 27, 2019 at Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery in Bluemont, VA.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Mt. Pisgah Lutheran Church, Hendersonville, NC.
