Obituary for Waltraud Von Kossman McCall

Waltraud McCall, of Balsam Grove, went to be with the Lord on December 10, 2021.

Waltraud Von Kossman McCall was born in Karlshrue, Germany in the small town of Koenigsbach. She was a daughter of the late Frederick and Anna Von Kossman. She had one brother and three sisters.

She married James Orville McCall and had one child before coming to America in 1949. They later had five more children in the family.

The people in Balsam Grove couldn’t pronounce her name, Waltraud, so they nicknamed her “Wally”. Wally and Orville built the McCall Grocery and Service Station in 1954 to supply the needs of the people in the Glouster Township. Today, the business is owned by their youngest daughter. It has always been an asset to the community.

Wally was preceded in death by; her parents, her husband Orville McCall, son Ricky McCall, an infant son, her sister Erna Herb of Germany, and her brother Heinz Von Kossman of Germany.

Wally is survived by her children, Ralph (Sylvia), Heinz (Kim), Patricia Thorpe, and Sherry Henderson (Joe); two sisters, Marga and Helga both of Germany; 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; eight nieces and nephews in Germany.

Wally was a strong believing Christian person and her favorite Bible verse was Psalm 121 “I will lift up my eyes unto the hills from whence cometh my help” She would say my help cometh from the Lord and all the people that live in the hills of the community which helped her when she moved from Germany to America.

The family wishes to thank Four Seasons Hospice for the excellent care they gave Wally in her final days.

A graveside service will be held at 1 PM Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at Shoal Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Balsam Grove, NC.
