Alma Ricker Owenby Alma Ricker Owenby, 93, died February 8, 2015 at Transylvania Regional Hospital. A native of Hot Springs and resident of Transylvania County since 1940, she was daughter of the late Adley Ricker and Fannie Lawson Ricker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, William Taft 'Buck' Owen of Rosman, her husband of 10 years, George Henry Owenby, Sr. of Pisgah Forest, sons Donald, Paul, and Willie Ray 'Buddy' Owen, and siblings Doyle, Carl, Sr., Charles, and Burlin Ricker, and Gladys Ricker Frisbee. Alma was an integral member of the Rosman community for nearly fifty years before moving to Brevard with her second husband in 1987. She worked for over twenty-five years at Ecusta, and was a long-time volunteer at Transylvania Regional Hospital. She was a member of Enon Baptist Church in Penrose. She is survived by her daughter, Virginia Owen Bradshaw of Brevard, as well as: Lionel Owen and wife Tanue of Edgefield, South Carolina; Lizzie O'Neill Owen of San Jose, Costa Rica; George Henry Owenby, Jr. and wife Dolores of Pisgah Forest; Doris Owenby Brown and Jean Owenby Sumner of Castle Rock, Washington; and Clara Ramsey Owen of Asheville. She is also survived by siblings Dean Ricker and wife Barbara, Iona Frisbee and husband Ed, Reeves Ricker and wife Mary Lee; nephew Carl Ricker and wife Jan; ten grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and many special family members and friends. Services will be held at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Moody-Connolly Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at 2:00 pm.
