Alphonso Kern Welch, 93, of Brevard passed away Monday, February 29, 2016. He was the son of the late John Welch and Ida Reese Welch of Bedford, VA.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Delsie Welch, his oldest daughter, Bonnie Gibby, his Grandson, Perry Gibby, and 11 of 13 siblings. Surviving siblings, Roy Welch and Jane Welch both live in Florida. He is also survived by three daughters, Sue Lamar of Pleasant Garden, NC, Vickie Taylor of Penrose and Deborah Lee of Penrose; 6 grandchildren, Tammy Solis, Rebecca White, Buffie Renee Kirkman, John Taylor, Houston Lee; and 7 Great Grandchildren.
He attended Pisgah Forest Baptist Church. He was a retired engineer and worked for Burlington Industries, and several machine companies. His military service was in the U.S. Army in World War II.
A memorial service will be held at 3 P.M. on Thursday, March 3, 2016 in the Moody-Connolly Funeral Home Chapel. His nephew, Stan Welch, Pastor of West Asheville Baptist Church and David Spray, Pastor of Pisgah Forest Baptist Church will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
