Alvin Roy Jones Cedar Mountain – Alvin Roy Jones, 84, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 23, 2014. He was the son of the late Seldon and Nellie Lee Jones. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister; Helen Ross. Alvin proudly served his country in the U. S. Air Force. He founded the Cedar Mountain Fire Department where he devoted his time taking care of the community. He helped build the Cedar Mountain Community Center and Rocky Hill Baptist Church where he was a member and a deacon for many years. He was a great carpenter. He was a wonderful husband, a devoted father and a loving granddaddy. He loved to nickname the ones he loved. Survivors include his wife of 58 years; Barbara Galloway Jones, one son; Rev. Brad Jones and wife Leah of Largo, FL, one daughter; Nira Stake and husband David of Greenville, SC, four grandchildren; Sherridan Leslie Jones, Melinda Keck and husband David, Stephanie Poierier and husband Michael and Neena Lowery, five great grandchildren; Emma Jackson, Logan, Eli and Miles Keck and Chance Poierier. Funeral Services will be held 11 am, Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Rocky Hill Baptist Church with the Revs. Dan Ray, Butch Skerrett and Brad Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rocky Hill Baptist Church, PO Box 509, Cedar Mountain, NC 28718.
