Ann Frances Price Silva, 78, of Brevard, passed away on August 20, 2013. She was born in Saint Louis, Missouri to the late Frank and Grace Dall Price.
She was always generous with her time and treasure in helping those in need, particularly those who put forth effort to help themselves. She was active in schools as a room mother, head start teacher and CCD teacher. She was very supportive of her son's music efforts on guitar and band as well as being an active leader in the Boy Scouts from the time her son was in Webelos, through attaining his becoming an Eagle Scout. She remained an active Boy Scout board member even when her son was in college.
The Boy Scout troop had an active rifle target shooting program. On the first outing at the rifle range, Mrs. Silva outshot every single man on the rifle range, including men with substantial hunting experience and men with military experience.
She believed that school comes first in a child's life and encouraged her son to put school first.
Later she was wildly enthusiastic about her only grandson and became the only woman to play in the boy's pick-up baseball game, in spite of her husband's worry over the possibility of her playing street ball on the hard asphalt surface.
She participated in her son's flat Stanley 2nd grade project. While other grandmother's had flat Stanley bake cookies, she had flat Stanley skating on the ice pond, taking walks through the woods and undergoing other adventures in the Smokey Mountains of NC.
She was always patient and supportive of her husband who worked as an engineer with NASA on many long, manned spaceflight missions. They would often last for days in an around-the-clock effort.
She is survived by her husband of fifty-four years, Ernani Silva, son Earnie Silva and wife Elenor, and grandson Robert Silva.
A memorial service will be held Monday, August 26, 2013 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Brevard with Father Andrew Nowak officiating.
