IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Annie Mae
Fowler
February 13, 1936 – July 17, 2024
Annie Mae Fowler, 88 years old, passed away on the evening of July 17, 2024. She was born on a very snowy day on February 13, 1936, in Indian Camp. The area is now a part of Gorges State Park. Her parents who preceded her in death were William Alvin and Julia McKinna Fowler.
Her heart was filled with love, always putting other before herself. She loved all children, cared for animals and had many pets over the years, especially dogs. She was creative, being an artist, painting beautiful pictures and intricate, delicate patterns, in particular that of flowers. She loved gardening and raising beautiful flowers. She had a particular interest in farming and agriculture. She was self-taught, always learning about something new. She was an avid reader, being interested in almost any subject. As a child, she was afraid of the airplanes flying over because she heard adult conversations during World War II. Because of this, she became interested in that War and could tell you much about the battles, the planes and ships and military personnel.
She was a Christian, a member of Cathey's Creek Baptist Church since childhood, being baptized in the waters of Cathey's Creek. She loved and studied the Bible and lived its teachings in her daily life.
She loved to cook, especially baking, and always produced a beautiful cake for every family gathering, usually a Hummingbird Cake which the family often requested. If not, a chocolate cake since chocolate of everything was her favorite.
She loved work and had many jobs, the first being in the school lunchroom while still a student in the 8th grade. Later she worked at United Radio & TV and Crest Dime Store in Brevard and traveling down Hwy 178 to Pickens, South Carolina for many years to Sangamo Electric in Pickens, South Carolina where they made capacitors. She then was a seamstress at Ruth Originals Brevard Plant where she made beautiful dresses for little girls. She was already a good seamstress, making many of her own clothes and with this experience she became an even better one, making garments and doing alterations for people in the community. In her last working years, she was employed by the Transylvania County School System in the Rosman School lunchroom, the Brevard Middle School lunchroom and by Brevard College in their cafeteria. She loved the children that she met at these schools.
She lovingly took care of her mother in her declining years often sacrificing things she would have loved to do to be with her.
She is survived by an aunt, Mary Heath of Rosman, two sisters, Cora Roess and Elizabeth Eubanks both of Brevard, three nephews, Henry Roess and wife, Margo, David Roess and wife, Becky, Danny Roess and wife Janet, niece, Jo Ellen Shipman and husband Jeremy, grandnephew, Kyle Roess and wife Jessica, grandnephew, Blake Burgess and wife Jessie, grandnieces, Caroline Whitten and husband David, Emily Roess and Fiancé Brian Jennings, Taylor Dodson and husband Zack, Lindsay Roess, great grandnephew Grey Whitten and Benjamin Whitten, and Great grandniece, Tatum Grace Dodson, many cousins, one in particular, Tim Fowler, who provided her much comfort and friendship throughout her life but especially in her declining years.
After having a stroke a few years ago, she lived through challenging times but still kept a smile on her face. Thanks to the staff at Sapphire Ridge Health who loved her and praised her for patience, cooperation and the smiling face she gave to them.
