Aretta Pruitt Pressley
Brevard – Aretta Pruitt Pressley, 86, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at The Oaks of Brevard where she had resided for the past year.
A native of Henderson County, she was the daughter of the late Bob Pruitt and Agnes Murray Pruitt Willis and was the wife of the late Leon Pressley. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Thelma Devore and Alma Merrill.
Mrs. Pressley attended Cathey's Creek Baptist Church and she loved to sing in the choir and she was a member of the ladies group. She had been a textile worker and machinist, and her last job was at New Adventure Day care taking care of special needs children. Mrs. Pressley was loved by everyone she met and she loved to be outdoors and enjoyed working in her garden and flower garden, and most of all, she loved to be on the go. She will be greatly missed.
She was blessed by many friends and family who will always cherish her memory. The family would like to thank her friends for the outpouring of love and support during the last year of her life. A special thanks to Geraldine Riddle, who she called her "daughter, and her husband Don Riddle, who she loved dearly. Also, the Pressley family would like to extend sincere thanks to all the staff of the Memory Support Unit, nurses and all other staff members at The Oaks.
Surviving are her daughters, Mildred P. Candler and husband Ike of Brevard, and Cecilia P. Scott and husband David of Etowah; sons, Robert Pressley of Travelers Rest, SC, and Stanley Pressley and wife Pam of Ellenboro, NC; sisters, Betty Woodring and husband Joe of Rosman, and Margaret Burgess of Brevard; brothers, Bobby Pruitt and Albert Pruitt both of Lincolnton, NC; grandchildren, James Blythe, Joshua Scott, Christian Scott, Lynn Adair, Little Stan Pressley, Kathy Pressley, Clarissa Pressley, Dean Michael Wood and wife Dale, Gerald Dwayne Wood and wife Tammy, Timmy Pressley, Robin Massengale, Kim Pressley, Katlyn, Ashelyn, and Brooklyn Pressley, David Candler and wife Brenda; a number of great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews; friend and caregiver, Jane Edwards.
The funeral service will be held at 2 PM Friday, August 30, 2013 at Cathey's Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Allen Aiken, Bobby Howard, and Don Riddle officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12-2 PM Friday at the church.
