Brevard, NC/Punta Gorda, FL – Barbara Ann Safron, 84, passed away on Monday, October 1, 2012 at her residence.
She was born in Indianapolis, IN, to the late Paul and Grace Davis. She was also preceded in death by her son, Gene Safron, and her sisters, Carol Buss and Nancy Kynerd. Mrs. Safron was raised in Miami, FL.
Mrs. Safron was a graduate of the University of Miami, FL where she played clarinet in band. She started the first band at the St. Charles Borremo School in Port Charlotte, FL and she also served as Principal and taught science and math. She was the founder of the Port Charlotte Symphony. Mrs. Safron was very active with the Brevard Music Center. Her passions were concert and symphonic band. She attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Brevard.
Surviving are her husband, Elwood Philip Safron; sons, Philip Paul Safron and wife Maureen H. Safron, and John Elwood Safron and wife Bridgett Ann Safron all of Port Charlotte, FL; sister, Janie Bonner of California; grandchildren, Christopher Safron, Alicia Rebol, John Gray, Kyke Safron, Shawn Safron, and Justin Safron; 3 great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 2 pm Saturday, October 6, 2012 in the Moody-Connolly Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Royal Palm Memorial Gardens, Punta Gorda, FL at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Brevard Music Center for the support of students of wind instruments.
