Balsam Grove – Beatrice M. Griffin, 79, passed away Monday, August 22, 2011. A native of Transylvania County and Balsam Grove, she was the daughter of the late Spurgeon McCall and Lucy Beatrice Allen McCall. She was also preceded in death by her husband Leonard Walter Griffin; brothers Esby McCall, Tolvin McCall, and Tommy McCall and sister Elizabeth McCall. Mrs. Griffin served on the Rosman Rescue Squad for twenty-one years, and wrote historical short stories about her community. She was a wonderful mom, aunt, sister, grandmother and cook. Surviving Mrs. Griffin is her son Billy Griffin (Bonnie); a very special niece, Cathy Brown; her sister, Rebecca (James "Buster") McCall, grandchildren Sarah Jane Griffin and Jason Lee Griffin and five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 2:00pm at the Griffin-McCall Cemetery in Balsam Grove with the Rev. Tommy Owen and Rev. Bill Galloway officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 from 6:00 pm until 8:30 pm at the chapel of Moody-Connolly Funeral Home.
