Billy Gene Smith, age 86, of Pisgah Forest died Friday September 21, 2012 at Transylvania Regional Hospital. He was born May 31, 1926 in Jackson County to the late James and Sophie Price Smith. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Betty Bryson Smith, and his second wife, Doris C. Smith. Mr. Smith was a member of Turkey Creek Baptist Church and a combat veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force. During his enlistment he received two Purple Hearts and Two Bronze Stars. Survivors include two sons, Danny K. Smith and his wife Ruby of Brevard, and Tony A. Smith and his wife Paula of Pisgah Forest; one daughter, Carla Smith McElmurray and her husband Jeff of Pisgah Forest; two brothers, Charles Everett Smith and his wife Peggy of Asheville and Jack Smith and his wife Barbara of Arden; one sister Joy Stevens and her husband Earl of Sylva; six grandchildren, Ashley Smith Cooper, Abbey Smith Fueger, Jamey Smith, Justin Smith, Tonya Smith and Jeffrey McElmurray; five great grandchildren, Madeline Cooper, Owen Cooper, Henry Fueger Savanna Norris Smith and Brynnley McAlister; a dear, dear friend, Kimberly Allison. Funeral services will be held 2:00pm Tuesday September 25, 2012 at Moody-Connolly Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Tommy Owen. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory with Military Honors presented by the Honor Guard for the Veterans of Transylvania County and the North Carolina National Guard.
