Obituary

Brevard - Bobbie June Parker Owen, age 90, passed away on Wednesday evening, May 1, 2024.

Born April 1st, 1934 to the late Dewey and Queenie Nicholson Parker, she was the devoted wife of the late James Lewis Owen for 43 years.

June is predeceased by her son, James Michael Owen; grandson, Jonathan Isaac Owen; sister, Faye Brown; and brother, Weldon Parker.

She is survived by her daughter, Denise Owen Austin (Donald) of Penrose, NC; granddaughter, Renee Trace (Craig) of Hendersonville; grandson, James "Jamie" Michael Owen, Jr. of Brevard; granddaughter, Hannah O'Neal (Peter) of Charlotte; great-grandchildren, Ian, Anna, John, James, Knox, and Kona; granddaughter-in-law, Annie Owen of Huntersville; brother, Glennon Parker (Selma) of Brevard; sister, Brenda Messer (Bill) of Tuckasegee; brother, Ronald Parker (Marvita) of Tuckasegee; sister, Diane Huggins (Ernest) of Brevard; brother-in-law, Truman Brown of Sylva; special sister-in-law (who was like a sister to her), Agnes Osteen of Brevard; along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She was known and loved as "Mamaw" to all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

As the family matriarch and a beloved member of her church and community, June will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She was always kind to everyone she met no matter who they were, and would give a stranger the shirt off her back if they needed it simply because she "just loved everybody." To everyone she met, she welcomed them like family.

Nothing brought June more joy than being surrounded by her family, whether it was a family cookout, holiday gathering, or a bluegrass jam session or "pickin'." Her 90th birthday wish was for her family to gather for a bluegrass pickin'. Her wish was granted on the night of her passing, a fitting tribute to her life and love for her family.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 11,  2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Midway Bible Baptist Church in Brevard. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Dr. Rickie Lee will officiate. The interment will be at Woods Cemetery in Balsam Grove, NC.
