Bobbie Sue Russell, 72 of Sapphire, NC peacefully passed away on Friday, February 17,2023 from complications with Type 2 Diabetes. She was in the comfort of her home, in her favorite chair, surrounded by her devoted dogs, Emily, Lilly, Sweetie and her beloved husband, William "Cotton" Russell. She was born on February 25, 1950, in Portsmouth, VA to the late Lillian Alice Joyce and Buell Craig Johnston. She spent many years working with children and taking care of the children's nursery at Highlands United Methodist Church where she was also a member.

Bobbie is survived by her husband, William "Cotton" Russell. She is also survived by her daughters, Amanda Willhoite Teague and Wendy Willhoite Buttrey, son in laws, Dale Teague and Will Buttrey, grandchildren, Elias Buttrey, Ellison Buttrey, Riley Teague and Mason Teague. She was preceded in death by her brother, David Craig Johnston Sr. and sister, Nell Ann Johnston Stuart. She is survived by her brother, Billy Johnston and sister, Bettie Lou Dodson. She is survived by numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces.

Our mother will be missed by many people. She was loving, generous, kind, and a bright light in the world. She lived her life with integrity. She often selflessly put others before herself. We will think of her often and cherish the memories of our time with her. We love and miss you, Mama.
