Robert Brian Johnson, age 70 of Brevard died Friday morning February 18, 2011. Brian leaves behind his wife of 48 years, Elizabeth Watt Johnson, two sons Will Johnson of Grantham New Hampshire, Todd Johnson and his wife Kate of Raleigh NC and one daughter Sue Lucas and her husband Brian of Windermere Fl. and eight grandchildren. He was born and raised in Chevy Chase, MD, the son and only child of the late William F. Johnson and Marcella Sigel Johnson. He was a graduate of Lehigh University and served in the U.S. Navy, as an air intercept controller before spending his career with AT&T. Since 1998, Brian has been a resident of Brevard, NC where he found the people to be so very caring. He was active in his local community government and an avid hiker until health issues forced him to withdraw from those activities. Brian loved Western North Carolina and delighted in showing off a favorite waterfall or mountain view to anyone who came to visit, and spent several years leading hikes and documenting them with photographs on the community hiking club's web page. The family is grateful to Tore's Home for all their love and support. Memorial services will be held Thursday February 24, 2011 at 11:00am at First United Methodist Church of Brevard. Brevard College was dear to his heart, so in lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the college in his name.
