Carlos Payton Garner, 88, of Brevard, North Carolina, passed away on July 11, 2024. Born on April 30, 1936, in Greenville, South Carolina, Carlos dedicated his life to family, his profession, and making all those around him smile as much as possible. Carlos graduated from Greenville High School before earning a degree from Clemson University. His academic pursuits led him to a successful career as a Mechanical Engineer with TMR, where his expertise and dedication were highly valued. He served honorably in the Air Force, a testament to his commitment to duty and country. Carlos's military service was marked by discipline and a steadfast dedication to his fellow servicemen and the values he held dear. An avid sports enthusiast, Carlos enjoyed golf and tennis, often attending Clemson sporting events, a tradition he cherished and shared with his family. His love for sports was only matched by his devotion to his family. He was a beloved caregiver to his wife, Mary Jo Fayssoux Garner, during her battle with dementia, showcasing his strength and compassion. Carlos is survived by his sister Bonnell Mahaffey; brothers-in-law Morgan and Jim Fayssoux; sisterin-law Emily Fayssoux; sons Dave and Joe Garner; daughters-in-law Jane and Amy Garner; and grandsons Brick, Payton, and Evan Garner. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin George Garner Sr. and Annie Bell Garner; wife Mary Jo Fayssoux Garner; son Gregory Fayssoux Garner and brother Lee Garner; brother Marvin George Garner Jr.; sister Bertie Stowe; and in-laws Richard "Pete" Fayssoux and Lila Mosely. The Moody Connolly Funeral Home in Brevard, NC, is assisting the family during this time. Carlos's life and legacy will be remembered for his jovial spirit, his love for storytelling, and his unwavering commitment to his family and country. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
