Rev. Carmel Victor Hall the oldest living WWII U.S. Army Veteran in Transylvania County died Friday February 8, 2013 at the Oaks of Brevard. He was born July 18, 1920 in Transylvania to the late Judson Hall and Savannah Owens Hall. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers Howard, Curtis and Almond Hall and six sisters Lois Owen, Grace Owens, Edra Owen, Nellie Galloway, Ailene Mull and Ruth McCall.
Rev. Hall served in Rome-Arno: North Apennines Valley and received the Combat Infantry Badge, Three Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal and The American Theater Campaign Medal.
He was retired from Duke Power Company was Baptist Minister and loved to work the land and grow all kinds of plants.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years Ola Louanne McCall Hall, one son;Victor Hall and his wife Kim, one daughter: Diann Shatley and her husband Paul, one sister; Annie Phillips and two grandchildren, Savanna Hall and Christopher Hall and numerious nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday February 10, 2013 at 3:00pm at Moody-Connolly Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Hall will be buried at Gillespie-Evergreen Cemetery with full Military Honors, a gift in his honor by his great nephew Lt. Col. Timothy D. Aiken, 130th Capital M & B Army National Guard. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:30pn until 9:00pm at the funeral home.
