Mills River - Carol Lee Burke, age 92, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2025.
Born in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Rubin and Ida Jones, Carol was raised in Royal Oak, Michigan, alongside her beloved sister, Joann Jones McCarthy Riddle.
Carol was the devoted wife of a United States Air Force and Eastern Airlines pilot for 28 years. Together, they shared a love of travel and meeting new people, forming lasting friendships throughout their journey.
A woman of deep faith, Carol valued her relationship with God and held her family as the cornerstone of her life.
She spent 37 wonderful years in Plantation, Florida, followed by 18 years in Brevard, North Carolina, before moving to Mills River, North Carolina, where she lived with her daughter and son-in-law.
Carol loved the twelve years she spent at Manor Care Alzheimer's Unit in Sunrise, FL, caring for the elderly.
Known affectionately as "Awnie" and "Grandma," Carol was a loving and proud grandmother to five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, with two more expected.
Carol is survived by her children, Kent Burke and his wife Therisa, Scott Burke, and Janice Burke Frisbee and her husband Greg Frisbee, grandchildren, Kurt Frisbee and his wife Madison, Brock Frisbee and his wife Kellie, Jace Frisbee and his wife Grace, Wyatt Burke and his wife Alexis, and Payton Burke, great-grandchildren include Shia Frisbee, Scottie Frisbee, Wade Frisbee, and Leighton Burke, with two more on the way. She is also lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Carol will be remembered for her grace, warmth, enduring faith, and the deep love she shared with all who knew her.
The family will be having a private celebration of life.
