Obituary

Carol Martin Elliott passed away on January 20th at a local hospital after a short illness. Carol and her husband, Sid, moved to Pisgah Forest in 2006 where they built their retirement home. Carol was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania October 11, 1945 to Dr. and Mrs. John Martin, who predeceased her. Carol has a younger sister, Dr. Joan Moreau, who lives in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. Carol graduated from Sarah Lawrence College in 1967 with a BS in Economics and she later earned a Master's degree from Columbia University in Latin American Studies. After a year of teaching at the American School in Lima, Peru, Carol taught school in the New York City school system for eight years. Carol met her future husband, Sid, at the Metropolitan Museum in New York City in 1978. And when Sid, who was with Sears, Roebuck at the time, was transferred to Chicago, she went with him and they later married in Illinois in 1979 While in Chicago, Carol then made a career change from teaching school to market research and later established her own company, Martin-Elliott Custom Research. Since coming to North Carolina, Carol has been active in the Brevard Branch of the American Association of University Women having previously served as president and also as chair of the book sale drive which is the AAUW's major fund project and which provides scholarship money for Transylvania girls. She is currently responsible for Branch Publicity. Carol was also a member of the Glen Cannon Property Owners Board of Directors for six years, serving as president for two years. Carol, while not a Scot herself, she enjoyed participating in the Elliot Clan gatherings and helping Sid who was commissioner for North Carolina for the Elliot Clan Society. With Sid, Carol enjoyed the Brevard Music Center concert series, the Brevard Philharmonic and the Spoleto Music Festival in Charleston, SC and they were active patrons in these organizations. The Elliotts have a big family with three children, six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
