Obituary

The Reverend Charles Donald (Don) Alley died April 14, 2010, at Tore's Home in Brevard, NC. He was born in Chickamauga, Georgia on April 25, 1943. He was predeceased by his parents, Burtram B. Alley and Ruth Goins Alley, and a younger brother, David R. Alley. He is survived by his wife of37 years, Judith w. Alley, three sons, Charles, Bruce and Christopher, 2 granddaughters, Elizabeth and Kathryn, and one brother, Steven. Fr. Don was ordained as a Deacon in the Anglican Province of America on April 16, 2005, and served as Curate and Parish Administrator of All Saints Anglican Church, Mills River, until his retirement in 2008. He served on active duty in the U.S. Air Force and Air Force Reserve for 21 years retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant in 2004. He received various commendations including the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal with 5 Bronze Stars, and the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with 3 palms. He attended Mercer University and Atlanta Law School earning his Juris Doctor Degree in 1979. He worked in the legal and claims management field for 16 years. Fr. Don was active in Boy Scouts of America in various adult leader positions for 14 years and was awarded the Daniel Boone (TN) District Long Rifle A ward. He was interested in genealogy and American history and served as an officer in the Georgia Division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and the Military Order of the Stars and Bars. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at All Saints Anglican Church, Mills River, with interment following in the Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Lewis Rathbun Center, 121 Sherwood Road, Asheville, NC, 28803 where Judie received lodging and care in a "home like" setting during Fr. Don's stays in Mission Hospital, or Friends for Life Forever Farm, P. O. Box 340, Sapphire, NC 28774, a sanctuary for senior and special needs cats and dogs.
