Charles Manning Lance, Jr. age 88, of Pisgah Forest, NC died Jan 23, 2011. Mr. Lance was born Aug 8, 1922 to the late Charles Manning Lance, Sr. and Ella Harriet Hogsed Lance. He was a member of Turkey Creek Baptist Church, and he was a veteran of WW II serving in the Military Police. He was preceded in death in 2008 by his wife of 66 years Thelma McConnell Lance, sisters Gertie McGee Rhodes, Hannah Landreth; brothers, Arlin, Joe Bill, George, Ernest, Howard and Don Lance. Survivors include three daughters, Jean Pace and husband Leon of Hendersonville, Mary Jane Collins and husband John of Up State, SC, Fay Cameron and husband Don of Mount Pleasant, SC; son Lloyd Lance and wife Lisa of Candler, NC; brother Leroy of SC; six grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, three step grandchildren and six step great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, January 30, 2011at Turkey Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Tommy Owen and Raymond Whitfield officiating. Burial will follow at Pisgah Memorial Gardens with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the Honor Guard for Transylvania County Veterans.
