Pisgah Forest – Charles Boyd Whitley, Jr., 79, passed away on Friday, June 8, 2012 at the Elizabeth House, Flat Rock, NC. A native of Stanly County, he was the son of the late Charles Boyd and Janie Bryson Whitley, Sr. Mr. Whitley was a member of the Brevard Wesleyan Church and was a former member of the Lions Club and Brevard Elks Lodge. He served in the U. S. Coast Guard. A graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, his career was in education. He was a teacher, Principal, Asst. Superintendent, worked in Admissions at Brevard College and worked for the State Board of Education where he evaluated Principals. He was a member of the NC Retired School Administrators. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Barbara Lowder Whitley; daughter, Toni Gant and husband Randall of Pisgah Forest; sons, Charles Stanley Whitley of Brevard, and Jeff Whitley and wife Sharon of Charlotte; grandchildren, Brooke Mulenex, Christopher Mulenex, Randi Gant, Kaitlyn Whitley and Lauren Whitley; great granddaughter, Rylynn Alejo. The memorial service will be held at 3:30 pm Sunday, June 10, 2012 at the Brevard Wesleyan Church with the Revs. Don Milstead and Dave Blackburn officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3:15 pm Sunday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the American Cancer Society or to one's favorite charity.
