Obituary

Christopher (Chris) Webster Jones born October 4, 1939, died peacefully on June 9, 2024.

Cris was preceded to death by his beloved son, Steven Lee Jones of Brevard and parents, Alton Lee (Monk) and Clara Webster Jones of Durham, NCChris was born and grew up in Durham NC where his father "Monk" Jones, managed and golf professional of Hillendale Golf Course. Chris' teenage years were happily spent playing golf and helping with odd jobs around the golf course.

After a semester at UNC, Chris decided college was a no for him and he was accepted into the US Air Force. He spent 24 years serving in the Air Force before retiring. He was stationed in several states including Texas, Mississippi, and California. He was also assigned overseas to Germany (two tours), Japan, Italy, England (two tours), Vietnam. and Crete. While assigned to the 6994th Security Squadron, Saigon, on flying status, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.

During his first tour in England, he met his loving wife, Janet, of 55 years. They had a wonderful and adventurous life together with their children Sharon and Steven sharing many travels, activities and loving memories. He enjoyed watching Steve play youth soccer and became an avid Luton Town supporter. Steve and Chris were season ticket holders for many years.

After retiring from the Air Force Chris began a new career with the NSA, stationed again in England and later here in Transylvania County. He loved golf and was a member of Glen Canon Country Club.

Chris volunteered delivering Meals on Wheels for many years. He was a member of The Brevard Elks Lodge where he served as the Publicity co-coordinator for several years.

Sharon blessed Chris with two grandsons, Grayson and Jackson. He enjoyed watching them grow up and experienced more fun family vacations and adventures.

Chris is survived by his wife Janet, daughter Sharon, grandsons Grayson and Jackson.

Graveside services will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to MemoryCare of Asheville or MountainCare Adult Day Care, Hendersonville Center.
