Dan William Smith, age 55, of Brevard, passed away, Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at his residence. He was a native of Augusta, Georgia and a son of the late, Dan William and Mary Jeanette Rook Smith. Survivors include: His wife, Betty Fortune, of Brevard. One step son Sam Owen and wife Wilma of Brevard. Four step daughters, Linda McNabb and husband Michael of Waynesville. Patricia Justice and husband Michael of Naples, NC, Sandra Owen of Pisgah Forest, and Rebecca Birdsong and husband Lewis of Virginia. Two brothers, Jack Smith, of Asheville, and Terry Wilson, of Georgia. He is also survived by his faithful companion Sampson. Graveside services will be held Sunday, October 18, 2009 at 2PM at Pisgah Gardens Cemetery, with Rev. Tommy Owen officiating. Moody-Connolly Funeral Home is assisting the family.
