Daniel Franks, of Transylvania County, passed away on October 1, 2026, surrounded by the loved ones who meant so much to him. He was 67 years old.

Daniel was a true giant teddy bear—big-hearted, gentle, loving, and always ready with a joke. He had a gift for making the people around him laugh, and his sense of humor brought light and joy to countless moments. Those who knew Dan will remember not only his laughter, but the warmth and love he gave so freely.

Daniel’s greatest love was his wife, Debbie who passed away nine years ago. She remained in his heart every day, and as he left this world, she was the first person he wanted to see in heaven. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Michelle, and his grandson, Brandon.

Daniel leaves behind his sons, Jojo and his wife Lovaline Kitchen; Micah Kitchen and his wife Patricia, daughters Tammy Hoxit and Melissa Hensley, granddaughters, Abriana Hutchins and Emilee Kitchen; grandson Kyle Kitchen and great-granddaughter, Paysia Hensley. He will also be deeply missed by extended family, friends, and all those fortunate enough to have known and loved him.

Daniel leaves behind a lifetime of memories, laughter, and love. Though his absence leaves an enormous hole in the hearts of those who knew him, his jokes, his laughter, and his giant teddy-bear heart will live on in the people he loved.

He is now reunited with the ones he missed most, and his family takes comfort in knowing that his heart is finally home.
