Obituary

Dawson Hogsed, 74, of Pisgah Forest, went to be with the Lord on September 6, 2023.  A native of Transylvania County, he was born on February 18, 1949, to the late Harold and Louise Hogsed of Rosman and was the husband of Carol Hogsed.

Dawson was passionate about education.  He was a 1967 graduate of Rosman High School and a 1971 graduate of Western Carolina.  He began his career teaching at Pisgah Forest Elementary School for seven years before becoming principal of Rosman Elementary for 27 years.  He strove to develop the potential he saw in his students and to help teachers succeed and motivate those students.  He was extremely proud of the staff and community efforts in winning the RJR NABISCO Foundation grant in the 90's.  This effort paved the way for continued excellence in education at Rosman Elementary.

Dawson was a long-time member of Etowah Baptist Church where he held various leadership positions, but his greatest love was teaching Sunday School to his first and second grade students.  His love of travel provided him with a deeper appreciation for the world God created.  Dawson was an avid collector and loved antiques.

He is survived by his wife Carol Hogsed of Pisgah Forest; son Darrin Hogsed, wife Kristen, and grandsons Drew and Avery of Naperville, IL; daughter Alicia Windham, husband Alan, and grandchildren Haley and Jackson of Hendersonville, NC; brother Don Hogsed of Brevard, NC;  and cousin Sharon Hogsed of Rosman, NC.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Moody-Connolly Funeral Home in Brevard.  The family will receive friends at 1 pm prior to the service.  A graveside service will follow at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory.
