Brevard - Denver Bruce Byers, 90, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 26, 2011 at the Elizabeth House, Flat Rock, NC. He and Mrs. Byers would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on July 3rd.
A native of Clay County, NC, he was the son of the late Glenn and Artie Ellis Byers. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Carroll and Ivan Byers, and his sister, Javenna Byers.
Mr. Byers was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving during WW II and he was a retired Civil Engineer from the NCDOT. He was very active in local church renovations, was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, and was a member of Glady Branch Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Surviving are his wife, Clella Cable Byers; son, Rev. Danny Byers and wife Retta of Brevard; brother, Harold Byers and wife Theresa of Brevard; grandchildren, Daniel Byers and wife Brittany of Asheville, Tyler Byers of Brevard, Brett Carpenter of Tryon, Brittney Boland and husband Tom of Hendersonville; Brittany Fuller and husband Chris of Cherokee, Wesley Long of Cherokee, and Whittney Smith of Brevard; great-grandchildren, Kippin Byers, Jayla and Alaya Fuller; niece, like a daughter, Jackqueline Carpenter of Tryon; nephew, like a son, Robert Smith and wife Michelle of Cherokee; several other nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, June 29, 2011 in the Moody-Connolly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Chester Jones and Rev. Lee Ray Greene officiating. Burial will be in Pisgah Gardens with military graveside rites conducted by the Honor Guard for Veterans of Transylvania County.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
