Dimples Alice Fortune Simmons passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2024. She was born in Marion, North Carolina to Effie Mary and Ralph Franklin Fortune. She was their only child and was named after a very popular doll at the time named "Dolly Dimples". Her family moved to the community of Nebo, NC, on the outskirts of Marion. Nebo is where Dimps grew up and fell in love with Ray Simmons. Their romance began in the 7th grade. Dimps and Ray were married for 72 years before his death in 2018.

Dimps graduated from Appalachian State where she was head majorette. She obtained her BA in primary education and taught 3rd grade for years. She opened Dimps School of Dance in Marion where she taught ballet, tap and baton twirling.

Ray Simmons transferred to Brevard, NC in 1969 with First Union National Bank. Dimps and Ray both fell in love with Brevard and were very involved in the community.

Dimps opened Dimps Realty Company in 1980. She was so proud of her business, her success, her residential community named Fortune Square and above all else the friendships she made with her many clients. Dimps always loved the color pink so there was a touch of pink in all that she did. She was involved with the opening of the Children's Center of Transylvania County and has raised money for other organizations such as the Transylvania County hospital. Dimps and Ray were active members of the Brevard First United Methodist Church.

Dimps cherished life and her family. She especially loved her home at Glen Cannon, her mountain view, golf and all the friendships she made there.

She is survived by her daughter MaryAlice, son in law Ben Baker of Pisgah Forest and grandson Christopher Baker of Arlington, VA.

A memorial service will be held on April 14, 2024 at 3 PM at the First United Methodist Church in Brevard, NC.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Children's Center of Transylvania County.
